"Where the Guns Go" Screening
In 2017, after a decade of the US-supported drug war, Mexico is experiencing more killings than ever - most of them committed with guns coming from the United States, legally or illegally. What can be done to stop the bloodshed with the US-sourced weaponry?
Please join us for a screening of Where the Guns Go: Us Policy and Human Rights in Mexico, a short film by Abad Levya and John Lindsay-Poland. Where the Guns Go brings together testimonies of human rights activists, journalists, and Mexicans directly affected by the violence in a 26-minute fim. Co-director John Lindsay-Poland will be joined by Carole Nagengast, Chair Emeritus of Amnesty International, and the screening will be followed by a short Q&A.
John Lindsay-Poland coordinates research and advocacy to end the iron river of US weapons that deepen the violence and destruction of families in Mexico. He has also written about, researched, and advocated for human rights and demilitarization of US policy for more than 30 years. He lives and works in Oakland, California.
Carole Nagengast is Professor Emeritus at the University of New Mexico. She conducts research on immigration and human rights in the Mexican Border Region and development in Eastern Europe. A long time activist for human rights, she is also the Chair Emeritus of Amnesty International USA.
