No CAFTA! No FTAA! Another World is Possible!
On October 20-24, Houston will host the eighth round of negotiations on the Central America Free Trade Agreement. Thousands of people have been protesting against CAFTA in Central America. If adopted, this agreement would cause a ?race to the bottom? with: ? Massive loss of decent-paying jobs in the U.S. ? Super-exploitation of our Central American sisters and brothers in sweatshops and maquilas ? Giant U.S. agribusinesses wiping out Central American small farmers, driving people from their lands, and forcing them to emigrate to the U.S. to survive ? Corporate pressure to wipe out or privatize social services ? Increased union-busting and violation of workers? rights ? More environmental damage throughout the region ? Less democratic participation in decisions affecting our lives
