More details TBA support is welcome in the planning and production of the march. As a coalition we welcome various perspectives around this issue to work towards healing, dignity and justice for all stolen lives.
For the past 21 years the National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality the Repression and Criminalization of a Generation takes place across the nation and even the world. It began in New York in 1995, created by families whose loved ones were killed by the police. They were affected by the gross injustices of the judicial system, the media and other institutions who defend the cops and attempt to silence their victims. October 22nd belongs to all people who have been affected by police brutality and?murder, and the supporters of those victims. This year we are calling all people and groups united by the mission of stopping police brutality to mobilize, rise up, and honor those who have been lost at the hand of law enforcement and the prison industrial complex. This day of action sheds light on the fact that people are dying because they are targeted due to race, mental health issues, gender identity, class, and many other reasons.
We are aware that one day of actions cannot undo years of oppression, our goal is to build unity, a network of community that can support each other, and provide a space for families to share their stories for healing. We need to support each other more than ever as we face a political regime that does not value lives. This march is for Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Jesse James Romero, Donnell Thompson, Darius Smith, Armando Garcia-Muro, Michele Anne Marie-Rice, Kenny Watkins, and countless others. In Los Angeles 50 people have been killed by police between July 2016-July 2017. These are someone?s sisters, husbands, cousins, loved ones.
The Los Angeles group will be marching Sunday October 22nd starting at 2pm. For more information please come to our next meetings to help create a vision of what this day can be! We welcome any creative contributions such as poetry, music, spoken word, art etc. Please contact us and give us enough time to review, the sooner the better, thank you.
Wednesdays 7-8:30pm at 2515 West 7th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90057
This is all volunteer collective powered by the people. Although this march has happened in years past we are starting from the ground up with zero funding.
***This is not an RCP produced event***
