Echo Park Film Center, 33 1/3 and Neighbors for Peace and Justice Presents: An Evening with Don Normark, Author of Chavez Ravine, 1949 (Chronicle Books) and others
". . . to consider a more intimate America, I would recommend this wonderful book: Chavez Ravine, 1949: A Los Angeles Story. . . . What these photos remind us is that there was once, right here in the center of our great American cities, not a brand new, old-looking ballpark with a corporate logo, but neighborhoods where each door was a proper name and every face carried a nickname: Chuy, Hoyo, La Pocha, Neta, Punky, Topo." - Richard Rodriguez On The News Hour With Jim Lehrer
The Evening will begin with the film, Chavez Ravine, narrated by Cheech Marin and directed by Jordan Mechner. 30 Minutes. Contains rarely seen archival footage. Music by Ry Cooder with photography by Don Normark. Following the film will be a panel discussion with Don Normark, and a former Chavez Ravine resident Carol Jaques and others to be announced. Normark will be signing books after the discussion.
