Thought-provoking economist Richard Wolff returns to Los Angeles to discuss the extreme downturn in most of capitalism?s old centers, the unequal growth in its new centers, and the resurgence of a global speculative bubble, making the case that the Great Recession should not be grasped as a passing moment, but as an evolving stage in capitalism?s unfolding history.

Wolff will discuss how reforms to capitalism now are too little, too late to solve capitalism?s mounting problems. ?A more basic, structural change is needed, namely a transition from capitalist to democratic worker coops in factories, office and stores,? Wolff comments. ?This is the socialism of our future.?

?Richard Wolff?s constructive and innovative ideas suggest new and promising foundations for a much more authentic democracy and sustainable and equitable development, ideas that can be implemented directly and carried forward. A very valuable contribution in troubled times.??Noam Chomsky

Professor of Economics Emeritus from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Wolff is currently a Visiting Professor in the Graduate Program in International Affairs at the New School University in New York.

Wolff is the author of several books, including Democracy at Work: A Cure for Capitalism, Occupy the Economy: Challenging Capitalism, and Capitalism Hits the Fan: The Global Economic Meltdown and What to Do About It. He hosts the weekly hour-long radio program Economic Update on Pacifica Radio and writes regularly for The Guardian, Truthout.org, and the MRZine.
