According to this Reuters article, which was first reported on by the Italian Communist daily Liberazione (and first linked here by D.Haleck) the police in Genoa were given pre-protest training by our very own Sherriff's department. (correcting some late-night editing, the title has been corrected from LAPD to LA Policing) Also, send some of the better side of LA to Genoa by demanding the release of the remaining Genoa Prisoners (read that link)

Police Suppress, Activists Sue
This Thursday at 10:30 am, activist groups and coalitions held a press conference regarding their lawsuit against the LAPD suggesting the PD's behavior surrounding the Democratic National Convention and the Oct.22nd March Against Police Abuse was violent and illegal and that the tactics employed supressed constitutionally sanctioned protest activity. Groups involved in the suit are the National Lawyers Guild, D2K, the LA Mumia Coalition, th ACLu and the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality.

Take a walk through the newswire archives to see some of the more egregious examples of the LAPD's misconduct.

Just a bit over one month ago San Diego was the site of an amazing demonstration focused on Biotechnology. Here are all of the photos, videos and most of the stories from the BioJustice 2001 events. The Legal Team is still working on defending participants and making a case against the police.

[ see the photos, read the articles, hear the audio, watch the video ] In far off Sacramento, a new bill, AB 25 (Migden), proposes to make numerous real changes in state law: from providing domestic partners the ability to sue for wrongful death, to allowing partners to make medical decisions on one another's behalf in times of medical crisis. These changes, while far short of complete equality, provide immediate and real rights. The ACLU of Southern California is attempting to build support for AB25 through its Domestic Partners' Rights Campaign. They are building and manifesting that support through the linked on-line petition.

[ ACLU's Domestic Partner Rights Campaign Info | Sign that petition here ] Peace demonstrators Marcus Page, Brian Buckley, Elizabeth Wyrsch, and Scott Galindez were found guilty of Conspiracy and two counts of trespassing for their act of conscience on May 20th at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
