WILMINGTON, CA, 4 September 2006--Apparently without respect for unions or workers, a handful of minutemen attempted to invade and disrupt the annual Union Labor Day picnic and festival at Banning Park today. At about 12:15, about a dozen minutemen with signs managed to get about a hundred feet into the park before they were confronted by a couple of hundred union members. Coincidentally, as they approached, the SEIU speaker was talking about the "most vulnerable" workers, those who work for less than minimum wage without union protection. ...

LOS ANGELES, September 4, 2006 - A public hearing with two of the five commissioners of the FCC was held Thursday this past week on the USC campus. This was the first of six such hearings to be held around the country. The hearing was presented by the Latino Media Council in partnership with Media Alliance and Free Press. The focus of the hearing was diversity in the media and media ownership. After opening remarks by the two commissioners the public was able to address the commissioners. All speakers were united in their opposition to any further consolidation of media ownership.

LOS ANGELES, September 2, 2006 - Immigrants Rights supporters held a march and rally in downtown this Saturday. Although only a fraction the size of the massive marches of March 25 and May1 this march still drew an estimated 3,500 people.

One of the central issues is the division of families when the children of immigrants who are born in the US and have US citizenship by birthright are separated from their parents by forced deportations. In recognition of this the march was dedicated to immigrant women and their children everywhere who are facing the same threat.
