Saturday is ART DAY! First, at 3PM is
Symboljism at the
IMC. It features some old IMC-ers, and a gang of local street activists. Bring a towel!
Later, at 7 in Highland Park, is
INVISIBLE
An Exhibit About Immigration, Exploitation And The American Dream. It's about sweatshop labor, and the artwork is not invisible. (There are several events listed.)
There's a Cacophony Society meeting at Mr. T's in Highland Park too.
And, very importantly, a killradio benefit show at Juvee. Support your local creative outlet for adult children, by partying down at a community center for actual children!
On the 15th, the boycott to increase tomato picker wages calls for a demo at Taco Bell Headquarters in Irvine. (It's the building in the Del Taco commercials. [The Spectacle recuperates all.])
Coming up in February is the big SPAN conference, a convergence of student peace activists. They're doing a media workshop, so if you want to participate, drop a note to the IMC-LA and help set it up.
And, down in Long Beach (you know, where the cops beat you up) a new infoshop has opened up, named A-Occasions. They have a calendar of events full of important activities. Copwatch, Anti War organizing, performance art, Middle Eastern culture, and veganism.
Why protest the WEF? The annual World Economic Forum is probably the single most influencial set of meetings amongst the forces of Transnational Capital -- it's where these forces coordinate their economic and political agenda. If you want to learn about some of their recent handiwork, just scroll down and read about Argentina.
