Recognizing May Day as their Labor Day, thousands of American and immigrant workers marched on Saturday and Sunday in the streets of several cities all across the US. In New York, after protests from labor activists and threats of legal suits against the City, Mayor Bloomberg finally issued a permit to march. Here in LA, the large immigrant population made this Southern California event the biggest ot its kind in the Nation. Unlike in the USA, May Day is a major event -- even a national holiday -- in many countries but especially south of the US border in Mexico, Central America, South America, and also in Europe. In other parts of the world, thousands of workers celebrate the world-changing 1886 strike that brought us to the eight hour day and better working conditions. May 1, 2005 - As of the time of this article the NYC-IMC site is down and has been down for 4 days. Hackers replaced the homepage with one of their own. The image here is a screen grab of what people attempting to access the site got instead.

People trying to reach the sites attacked are now being be directed to the US-IMC site until the problem is fixed. Austin, Atlanta and several other local IMC websites have also been attacked. The LA-IMC was also down this Sunday, but there is no indication that it was related. There is some good information and discussion on the Portland IMC site on the details of this event.

LA Food Not Bombs (LAFNB) Serves Free Meals to Hungry People

This Sunday and every Sundays: at 2 PM, at the A House
On Sunday, April 3rd, Mr. A went to the Pershing Square in Downtown LA to check on a non-authoritarian group which functions upon anarchist principles . The Los Angeles chapter Food Not Bombs (LAFNB) is part of a revolutionary movement which has hundreds of chapters around the world. Its activists have cooked and served free vegetarian meals to the homeless and hungry people since 1996. Every Sunday they gather at the A house at 2 PM to cook donated food which they serve to the homeless at Pershing Square at 6 PM. On an average, they give away between 200 to 300 free meals a week.
