Green Questions
Just because the punditocracy went ballistic over Nader's candidacy doesn't mean that plenty of dedicated activists don't have valid concerns of their own. Since we aren't a parliamentary system with proportional representation, there are serious questions that need to be faced. Normon Solomon looks at the big picture, while an anonymous grassroots Democratic activist reflects on her thoughts after attending a local Green fundraiser.

Impeach The Supreme Court Felonious Five
The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) is exploring the legal, economic and viable political grounds for launching a broad-based impeachment campaign against the five members of the Bush v. Gore majority on the Supreme Court. The NLG is asking for input, support and endorsements. Vincent Bugliosi first laid out the case against the "felonious five" in his Nation article 'None Dare Call It Treason', followed by the book, "The Betrayal of America." Bugliosi will be speaking at Midnight Special this Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Black Bloc As the violence and bloodshed escalate in the cities of the world and as the stakes of the anti-globalization movement become higher the debate on tactics takes on essential and immediate importance. Here is a day-by-day description by eye witnesses of the horrible events in Genoa along with some analysis, questions, and some ideas of where to go from here

Star Wars Fraud Part of Larger Pattern
The corporate media hasn't said much about it, but over the weekend it was revealed that the "successful" July 14 Star Wars test was rigged-the target had a homing beacon inside it. Earlier Star Wars tests were also rigged, but the biggest fraud is the pretence that Star Wars will increase security. Even Britain's top military officer has criticized it, not just for being unproven, but for draining money from existed needs. Plans to further military space with the "Space Bomber" are another example of military-industrial "techno-fixes" that create military instability, generating a further "need" for more military spending.

Cal State LA Turns Away Students
"Perhaps I was blind to the facts, but I was promised an education for my time and efforts. But now I feel stabbed in the back by the program. I'm trying to look to the future and leave all my past behind me but it's hard when people keep shutting the door in my face."

Demonstrators vs. Boise Cascade
Last month, industry lobbyists, led by Boise Cascade, wrote to the Internal Revenue Service arguing that groups such as RAN had violated the terms of their tax-exempt status because they engaged in civil disobedience. In response, last week, more than 20 national environmental and social justice leaders joined with music legends Bonnie Raitt and John Densmore and environmental hero Julia Butterfly Hill to protest Boise Cascade's crusade to silence critics of its old growth logging practices
