LOS ANGELES, March 26, 2006-- What happened yesterday? The Los Angeles Times estimates 500,000 people turned out; Univision estimates 2,000,000. You can read about it anywhere--a Gran Marcha against the Sensenbrenner immigration reform bill. The pictures are spectacular. Doves were released, a horn blared, a marching band played.
Those of us who couldn't get close to the speakers' platform joined semi-organized mini-marches of several thousand people, led by the SEIU, LA-ANSWER, and UNO. Waves of people standing in the streets broke into spontaneous chants of "¡Aqui estamos y no nos vamos!" And always there was, "¡Sí, Se Puede!" Outpacing the masses or going the other direction, against the tide, meant squeezing along building walls and non-stop "con permiso."

... Altogether, in 1968 there were 10,000 students who walked out of about five different high schools. It was shock to the school system. It will never be the same. The students walked out of the schools because they had demands. We organized the walkouts out of the Brown Beret coffee house, [a place] called La Piranya.
... The demands were: *more Latino teachers (there were hardly any Latino teachers), *better food (it's still pretty bad) and Mexican food, *Chicano history classes, *more counseling directed toward college as opposed to vocational education. Before we even made the demands, we made a survey and distributed it to the students. These were the kinds of questions we asked on the survey.

If you've been reading LA Indymedia or listening to KPFK, you've heard about the March for Immigrants' Rights that will be taking place tomorrow, [Saturday, March 25] starting on Olympic and Broadway. But if you're limited to English, you probably haven't heard the non-stop promotion by virtually every popular local and nationally-syndicated Spanish-language DJ in Los Angeles. Low-ball estimates from media insiders are that 200,000 people will turn up. March organizers are scrambling to accommodate three times that many and busloads of people from across the state, from Reno and Las Vegas, from Phoenix, from Texas, from New Mexico, from Denver, from Tennessee, and from Chicago.

LOS ANGELES March 21, 2006 – Anti-war activists protested outside the offices of California Senator Fienstien on Monday. A die-in was staged while the names of those killed in Iraq were read aloud. They then placed coffins draped with US flags at the doors to the building, sat down in front of the coffins and blocked the entrance to the building.
Eight protesters were arrested for trespassing. At the time of this publishing seven of those arrested have been released. The one protester still in jail is expected to be arraigned and released latter today.
The office of Senator Fienstien was chosen because of her support for the war and her husband’s ties to the weapons industry. The group is calling for the immediate withdrawal of all US forces from Iraq and Afghanistan. More such actions are planned in the future.

12:03 AM-People are protesting against the war in front of the offices of United States Senator Dianne Feinstein at Santa Monica and Sepulveda in West Los Angeles.
12:06 AM People are starting to block the entrance of Dianne Feinstein offices. At this time there is no police.
12:30AM--7 or 8 people got just arrested for blocking the door of the senator with 7 coffins. The arrestees have been taken to the West Los Angeles station by the LAPD.
12:40 AM--It seems that the arrestees were from a new group called LA Movement .This was the first of a series of actions planned in the next few weeks.
1:40 PM The males and the females have been separated at the West LA Police station. The men will be transfered to the LAPD Pacific division, and the women to the Van Nuys station. The authorities would not give any details about when the arrestees will be transfered.
2:40 PM Senator Dianne Feinstein's press secratary spoke about the incident. Senator Dianne Feinstein's press secretary in DC just stated that neither the Senator, nor her staff had any involvement in the arrests since the building where her office is located also houses other offices. He said that they are aware of the situation, but she will not make any public statements about the incident. This should not be a surprise with her history in supporting the war of terror (remember the Sherman Austin case, where she wrote to the judge and asked for a harsh sentence, charging that his political dissent web page amounted to terrorism).
At 7:50 PM Monday night - Two of the three women that were arrested today in front of Senator Fienstien's office have been released. One is still in jail.
Two of the men have been released.
One man still in jail is said to be facing stiffer charges.
Unclear as to the remaining two arrests

A tiny portion of Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist's claimed 240 million followers made a surprise showing this Saturday at a Costa Mesa community forum on constitutional rights and immigration law.
They were welcomed by Coyotl Tezcalipoca of the Colectivo Tonantzin, which sponsored the event primarily with Costa Mesa's local immigrant population (which has been the target of hate and harassment from the city's Minuteman Junta) in mind, but was happy to discover what it hopes is a new-found interest by the border vigilantes in civilized behavior and basic human rights.

LOS ANGELES, March 19, 2006 – The colorful Santee Alley in the downtown fashion district where small storeowners compete for business and shoppers hunt for bargains is always a lively scene on weekends. But, this weekend it got a little more lively as activists for workers rights picketed one of the small shops on Santee Alley. The store, Yessi Fashion, has a history of ill treatment towards its employees, which until now has gone largely unchallenged. Workers have been tolerating long shifts without breaks, unpaid overtime and poor working conditions for years, but the breaking point came last Saturday when one worker who has worked there faithfully for the last nine months was fired for calling in sick.

On March 18th the sleepy city of Orange was the site of a rowdy demonstration against the Iraq War. Hundreds of noisy protesters poured into the commercial center of the Orange County city, snarling traffic and startling shoppers.
The march was part of a rally held at nearby Hart Park to mark the third anniversary of the Iraq invasion. Organized by the Orange County Peace Coalition, the theme of the event was: "Three years, thousands dead--enough's enough. It's time to bring the troops home now."

Thousands of Peace-Loving people marched through the streets of Hollywood today demanding an immediate end to the US military occupation of Iraq.
The war in Iraq began three years ago when Mr. Bush, in a blatant act of aggression, ordered the US military to invade the sovereign nation of Iraq.
As justification, Mr. Bush cited knowledge of Iraq's possession Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).
No WMD were ever found in Iraq.
Three years later, the US military continues to occupy the nation of Iraq, despite polls which indicate that a majority of Iraqis and US citizens want the US troops to be withdrawn. ... Report with photos:
