Life, Water, and the Pursuit of Happiness from the newswire;
An action alert posted by Faramarz Nabavi of the Stop Cadiz Coalition (faramarz@riseup.net) calls for continued pressure on the LA Metropolitan Water District (MWD) to dump a proposal by Cadiz Inc. Cadiz' scheme has publicly owned water being pumped onto private land and piped with public funds to be sold back to the city for private profit. Unjustifiable on moral, philosophical, legal and historic terms, the Cadiz proposal is not doing well- but activists call for continued outrage to end their discussion on the plan alltogether.
For more info on the issue, check out this Public Citizen backgrounder.
Update: Tuesday 10/8/02 The Cadiz plan was rejected! Read the news.

Los Angeles - 2 p.m., meet at corner of Olympic and Broadway, downtown Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, anti-police brutality activist and spoken-word artist Truthmaze (William Harris) and two friends were attacked by plainclothes police officers in Minneapolis while flyering Saturday night. Ironically, they were flyering for the upcoming October 22nd Day of Protest Against Police Brutality. The officers apparently did not identify themselves; the activists defended themselves and as a result are facing charges.
