Bomb Scare At Parker Center Stalls OCT22 March
UPDATE 7:30 PM - A jail solidarity vigil of about 12 people is being held outside the central jail at 6th & Wall. The two women arrested are minors, age 16 and 17, and are due to be released to their parents soon. The parent of one arrestee has reportedly arrived at the station. Not clear exactly what they are charged with, rumors range from assaulting an officer to resisting arrest. The suspected bomb turned out to be an empty box on the sidewalk.

5:48PM - At around 4:00, there was a conflict between demonstrators and the police. The upshot was that two activists were taken down and arrested, and are presently being held at 6th and Wall. It was uncertain if a solidarity vigil was being organized, but it might be worth going if you're in the area. Contact the NLG to double check. (323) 653-4510.

4:07PM - The march has been let through. Crowd estimated at around 300.

3:55PM - As the march moved up Broadway, it was stopped by the police at First street. According to Jim Lafferty, a red box left in front of City Hall East drew the attention of the police bomb squad, and it is being investigated. A six block area around the building is cleared. He believes that the march will proceed after the issue is cleared up.

In the meantime, the organizers of the October 22 march against police brutality and the criminalization of a generation are making speeches as the people wait. They appear to be making the best of this inopportune inconvenience.

No other activity has been reported.

Simi Valley, CA - This part of Southern California is recognized as a very conservative area. So an anti-Bush protest of any size in Simi Valley is a remarkable event. Among the people gathered to protest Bush, were Tim, John and Aaron, three members of Iraq Veterans Against the War.

LOS ANGELES, October 21, 2005, Flights into Los Angeles International Airport were temporarily delayed on Thursday. This was due to a FAA issued Temporary Flight Restriction to clear air space for the landing of Air Force One. The main North/South Freeway 405 for LA was closed during rush hour creating grid lock for much of West LA. Bush may have picked up an extra million or two at his fundraiser but he made no friends with Los Angeles commuters yesterday.

Also from reports on the LA-IMC newswire it seems that large sections of major surface streets were also blocked off leaving motorists with few alternate routes. It has now been discovered that all this mess was caused by the route taken to get Bush to a Republican fundraiser held at the Bel Air home of a Mr. Robert Day TODAY's BUSH ALERT: Roads in the area of 405 Fwy & Sunset Blvd. Closed 4 -8 p.m || Bush Fundraiser Held at the Bel Air home of Robert Day.

LOS ANGELES: October 18, 2005 - As the war in Iraq rages on with no end in sight and the City of New Orleans remains still largely uninhabitable. Bush’s approval rating has hit an all time low of 39%. In response local communities are planning to protest Bush during his scheduled visit to the Los Angeles area this week. Bush is scheduled to be in the LA area this coming Thursday and Friday, October 20 and 21, 2005 and people are calling for demonstrations against Bush and his policies. A call for a protest in Simi Valley has been made for Friday, 11am at the Reagan Library.

As you drive through the streets of Los Angeles, you may notice a few posters of George Bush drowning in a flood of skulls and other debris. These posters, titled “Patriot Inaction,” serve to remind the public of the Bush administration and its handling of hurricane Katrina victims.
