LOS ANGELES, Thursday, August 17, 2006 - Immigrants rights supporters are calling for demonstrations against the California Republican State Convention this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Los Angeles. Unlike the protests seen at national conventions, state conventions usually pass without much notice. But this year’s state convention could be different. The founder of the anti-immigrant group, the minutemen, is scheduled to attend the convention this Saturday Noon. This is at the same time when the governor is set to speak. The governor has publicly stated his support for the minutemen vigilante group. This is seen by many as an endorsement of the anti-immigrant group by the Republican Party.
