On Saturday Night December 14, 2002
upwards of 2002 demonstrators held a vigil/rally at the very epicenter of Southern California's Tourist Industry -- the intersection of Hollywood and Highland (down the street from Grauman's Chinese Theater, in front of the new Kodak Corporate Kitsch Mall where they hold the Academy Awards Ceremony). Tens of thousands of automobilies passed the anti-war event in the course of two-hours-plus; the entire time there was a soaring chorus of solidarity car horns a-honking. What started out as a vigil became a celebration of the growing anti-war movement -- and by the end of the evening I think everyone there began to feel if the response of the passers-by was any indication, we in the anti-war movement should keep our spirits up: WE CAN STOP THIS WAR!
Demanding money for mothers everywhere, not for war, a multi-racial group of women and men that was remarkable for the breadth of the communities represented, gathered at the Crossroads Women's Center in Los Angeles on
December 7 for "A Community Dialogue: Speakout Against War and For the Right to Welfare."
The Dialogue, which was coordinated by the Every Mother is a Working Mother Network and the Global Women's Strike Planning Group/LA, brought together grassroots women who are campaigning for welfare as an entitlement for our caring work with other antiwar and peace and justice activists, to press for the military budget to be used not for weapons and war but instead used for welfare and other resources to go to those who are caregivers of people and the planet.

Also, back on Oct. 29, 2002 the Every Mother is a Working Mother Network sponsered a Women’s Anti-War Speakout & Picket. Welfare mothers, other caregivers and supporters spoke out and said “Yes to Welfare! No to War in Iraq!” Under the banner “Invest in Caring Not Killing,” the women also paid tribute to Senator Paul Wellstone and his wife Sheila as well as Congresswoman Mink, all of whom stood with welfare mothers.
