The LA-IMC sent out an announcement to SoCal artists of all stripes asking for projects or ideas that they had in response to the post S11 situation. The idea of the project was to present projects, AND the ideas behind the projects. Though surely not an exhaustive survey, the idea was to present the wide array of cultural production occuring in SoCal. With an aim to inspire, the curators promised to include every project they caught wind of, even projects that they didn't like.

We approved an "Art" page several months ago. The purpose of this page is to highlight the intersection of art and politics. If you'd like to participate in the editing of this page, we're looking for volunteers. Drop a note to info@la.indymedia.org for details.
If you want your newswire posts to appear in the "art" newswire here, when you post your article, make sure the "Category" is set to "art".
The Internet became a bit less "free" with the recent imposition of royalties on internet radio stations. Established by the Librarian of Congress, the fees exceed the current revenues of web radio stations, which, in the case of a volunteer operated station like KILLRADIO.ORG, is precisely zero.
Is it possible that it's the goal of the RIAA, who lobbied for the new fees, to completely destroy internet radio, forcing listeners back into the record industry controlled system of labels, FM radio, and chain retail stores?
The rates themselves are problematic, because they're based on a shady deal between Yahoo! and Broadcast.com that set rates in order to kill small broadcasters and, using a loophole, get out of paying royalties to copyright holders.
ACTION! There are numerous letter-writing campaigns to lobby the legislators; there's a 30 day deadline, so messages must be sent soon.

"There's no business like show business," except when it comes to importing jobs and projects to other countries. Show business starts to look a lot like manufacturing, and increasingly, engineering. Today, due to subsidies from the Canadian government, productions are moving northward to Canada. Even the show Pasadena is filmed in Vancouver, not Pasadena. Welcome to globalization. What's good for the stockholder is what's not good for the people.

UPCOMING Peace Rally Saturday, October 27 at 1 PM and anti-war cultural production The LA/Orange County Coalition To Stop The War / Coalition For World Peace is calling to Demonstrate for "Peace with Justice" this Saturday 1:00 pm at Persing Square .
The accompanying photo is one of a series documenting banner drops in public space around LA- highway overpasses. This action, done by a small collective was done to inspire independent action and free speach.
Unrelated but also of note in its scope are wheat-pasted 81/2" by 11" bilingual posters that appeared through-out Los Angeles imediatly after S11; some that read "Say no to ALL violence" and "War is Never the answer."
