The Los Angeles MTA has announced astonishing fare hikes. A day pass will increase from $3 to $5 in July and to $8 by January, 2009, and a monthly pass will go from $52 to $75 in July and to $120 in January, 2009. Not only will these fare hikes punish poor people, the proposal presented by MTA officials works against the declared goals of our society of reducing petroleum dependence, decreasing traffic, improving air quality, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In the Angeles National Forest about fifty or sixty young volunteers from a variety of religious youth organizations (the UCC, "United Church of Christ" and many other groups from all around Southern California) gathered together with representatives of the Sierra Club, the San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders, and the U. S. Forest Service at the Rincon Fire Station in the San Gabriel River Ranger District.

Westchester, Los Angeles, April 14, 2007 - A local grassroots group called Environmental Change Makers held a march up and down Sepulveda Blvd this Saturday to bring attention to the threat of global warming. They are calling for an 80% cut in carbon emissions by the year 2050. Also joining in the march were members of the LosAngeles Green Party who are planning a series of Earth Day events this month, including a presentation on the South Central Farmers the coming Wednesday, April 18th. Bike Week Pasadena is a grass roots initiative organized in cooperation with the city of Pasadena that brings together "everything bike" for a weeklong salute to the bicycle and its many uses, from commuting, to exercising, to just plain having fun.
