A Congressman of the People: Parren J. Mitchell (RIP) (tags)
Rep. Parren J. Mitchell, age 85, died on May 28, 2007. He served the people of Baltimore, MD, for eight terms in the U.S. Congress (1971-87). He was fighter for Civil Rights, who opposed the Vietnam War and pushed for the impeachment of Richard M. Nixon. Today, by contrast, Maryland is stuck with U.S. Sen., Barbara A. Mikulski. She supports funding for the Iraqi War, with no conditions, and condones the wrongdoings of President George W. Bush.

On March 19, 2007, the Baltimore City Council unanimously approved a Resolution condemning the Iraqi War, the lies that got us into it, George W. Bush’s insane “Surge,” and demanded the troops be “safely” withdrawn from that conflict. On that same night, a Peace Rally was held at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church. The Rev. Heber Brown III said: “It’s time for us to raise hell for peace in our churches.” The event was sponsored by the local UPJ group.
“Has Sen. Barbara Mikulski Lost Her Soul?” (tags)
Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) voted against the Iraqi War. But, since then, she has acted like an agent of the Bush-Cheney Gang by consistently voting to fund it to the tune of $411.3 billion. Mikulski says she “cares about the troops,” but Peace advocates in Maryland think that she has “lost her soul.” They wonder when Mikulski is going to say: “Stop this war!” She has ignored the mandate of the Nov. 7, 2006 election. Iraq is now Sen. Mikulski’s War!
Protesting Colin Powell’s Deception (tags)
One of the principal co-conspirators in selling the Iraqi War was Colin Powell, the ex-U.S. Secretary of State. Few will ever forget his deception-filled speech before the UN, on Feb. 5, 2003, which helped launched the Neocon-inspired conflict. His own aide, Col. Lawrence Wilkinson, called it “a hoax on the American people.” Powell was in Baltimore on Dec. 5, 2006, to give a talk. Activists, led by the “Citizens for Peace” group, protested his gig.
