End Israel's Mass Detention of Children Without Trial!

On Monday, December 25th, an Israeli judge extended the jailing of 16-year-old Palestinian activist, Ahed Tamimi, along with her cousin Nour Tamimi, and her mother, Nariman.

Judge Benisho accepted police claims that Ahed Tamimi presents a danger to Israeli occupation soldiers and could impede their work. On those grounds, he extended her kidnapping and imprisonment until Thursday.

Last year, Israel reintroduced the indefinite detention of children without trial. Hundreds of Palestinian children are currently being held captive by the Israeli government as political prisoners.

Ahed was filmed earlier this month slapping an Israeli soldier when the soldiers prevented her from returning to her house in the Israeli occupied West Bank. In the West Bank, Palestinians are policed by the Israeli military and suffer constant hindrances to their freedom of travel. These include roadblocks, hours long waits or total denials of access, Palestinian only curfews, Jewish only roads, searches, constant harassment, and and constant humiliation. No child should be forced to live under occupation. These hindrances to freedom of travel even kill Palestinians attempting to get to medical attention, on purpose.

None of these humilations are suffered by illegal Jewish settlers living on stolen Palestinian land. While Palestinians are policed by Israeli soldiers, it is illegal for Israeli soldiers to police Jews. In fact, a Jewish settler could walk up to a Palestinian and shoot her in front of an Israeli soldier, and the Israeli soldier would have to wait for the police to arrive to stop the violence or do anything about the murder. The Israeli soldiers are constantly murdering Palestinians themselves and have murdered at least a dozen Palestinians since Trump's declaration of war on the Palestinian people on December 6th.

Jail time was also extended for Nour Tamimi and Nariman Tamimi. They are imprisoned on suspicion of incitement for their posts on social media and filming of resistance to repressive actions by soldiers.

Ahed Tamimi was arrested on December 18, 2017, in the middle of the night when the Israeli army burst into the Tamimi family home. During the raid, her mother, 14-year-old brother, older brother, and father were all beaten by Israeli soldiers. Family computers, cameras, and cell phones were also stolen. No reason was given for her arrest. Ahed's mother, Nariman, was arrested at noon while inquiring about her daughter at an Israeli occupation police station.

Since Ahed's arrest, she has been rapidly shuffled around to at least three different jails and denied sleep by being kept in a cell purposely kept cold.

Israel routinely tortures Palestinian children. In an investigation of the treatment of Palestinian children in captivity, the Defense for Children International found that three-quarters endured some form of physical violence following arrest. The report based its findings on the testimony 429 Palestinian children after detention by the Israeli military and police. It is well documented that Palestinian children are routinely beaten, abused, and tortured under the care of the Israeli military.

In 2014, at the age of 13, Ahed Tamimi earned international fame for fighting like a soldier to successfully free her brother from arrest, biting a soldier's hand to free him. Children are often held hostage, tortured, or murdered by the Israeli government in an attempt to break and silence the Palestinian people.
