Brazil: A short letter to President Trump
Mr. President Donald Trump,
Your recent wise measures for Syria have increased my determination to send this letter to you. Human Kind cries out for peace and your actions point out a path of diplomacy, intelligence and respect for Syria and for the world, bringing us all a great relief and making me publicly express my support and sympathy .
The situation in my country, so important for continental peace, prosperity and stability, is very serious today, Mr. President Donald Trump: in April of last year, not only the Brazilian regime was parliamentarized, in default of the population, as well as a legitimately re-elected president with 54,000,000 votes and against whom no criminal offense could be identified, as the 1988 Constitution requires for these purposes, was put away.
It is embarrassing to realize that the coup d'état was implemented by parliamentarians who were about to be reached by justice, thus moved by the most petty preservation instinct, zero patriotism, zero commitment to society.
The United States and Brazil have always been friendly and sister nations, Mr. President, and the geographical position strongly recommends that this be so, as does the very visible evolution of the West / East dynamics.
We fought side by side, we must remember, against Nazi-fascism, on the battlefields of Europe.
Sectors of the United States, historians say, have often, however, interfered in the Brazilian historical / political process, with enormous losses for our population and, as contradictory as it may seem, also for your fellow citizens.
It was so in 1954, culminating with the suicide of Getúlio Vargas; In 1964, with the deposition of João Goulart, and last year, with the shameful betrayal of Temer to Dilma and the Brazilians who voted for her or who saw democracy sinking.
Violated by last April's coup the rule of law, things have been getting much worse Mr. President. We have numerous arbitrary arrests, aimed at extracting allegations that are then intended to be used as judicial evidence, but which are in fact the scandalous product of a crude form of torture, and even worse, if it is possible, we have a judge condemning people without presenting any evidence and leading to misery by the shamefully arbitrary confiscation, the victims of unfounded condemnations.
The rule of law was suppressed in Brazil in the face of the infamous silence and connivance of some of the highest judicial authorities in the nation.
Mr. President, most regrettably, sectors of the United States were involved in training the best-known of these judges. I want to believe that this aggressive interventionist policy, clearly implemented after the uprising in Libya, was part of the strategy of your defeated adversary to accredit herself with certain well known hard sectors of the American society.
Mr. President, these glaring irregularities would never be possible were it not for the massive support they receive from Rede Globo de Televisão, the leading network in the country and other lesser-rated broadcasters. If we approach our magnifying glass of this powerful network of communication, also there we will find remarkable influences of certain sectors of the United States of America.
Public debt, never audited since Getúlio Vargas, Mr. President, consumed 50% of the Union's budget in the last year.
Temer spent about 15 billion reais from the treasury to stay in power, buying parliamentarians, in the face of recent investigations.
Between 5 and 7 million jobs have disappeared due to the legal-media collusion, Mr. President.
The main practical consequence of all this could be the conduct of an electoral contest in 2018, with the strongest and most popular candidates truculently prevented from participating.
This will lead us to a permanent crisis of legitimacy, to the deepening of social inequalities in Brazil, and to a scenario of unpredictable instability, which I find very little interesting also for the United States, which today is facing the worldwide changes that we all perceive and we all know and that you, Mr President, have now begun to consider and face with brilliance, in this example of statesmanlike intelligence which is the nascent agreement with Russian President Putin about the burning problems in Syria.
