Alexander also notes “Three Strikes” Laws are a violation against the human rights of hundreds of thousands of 3 Strikers and their families. “Across America, thousands of 3 Strikers are serving life sentences after committing minor offences. The punishment should fit the crime to allow these inmates to resume their live with their families.”

While campaigning for California Lieutenant Governor in 2006, Stewart Alexander traveled throughout California speaking against the state’s “Three Strikes” Law. Now a 2012 candidate for President of the United States, Stewart Alexander says he will battle the “Three Strikes” Laws nationwide.

Stewart Alexander cites, the “Three Strikes” Laws cost working people billions of dollars annually and is plunging state governments into increase debt. “The Three Strikes has not proven to be an effective deterrent to violent crimes.”

According to an American Civil Liberties Union briefer, it outlined several reasons why the “3 Strikes” Law is a loser:
“3 Strikes” Laws won’t deter most violent crime
“3 Strikes” Laws could lead to an increase in violence
“3 Strikes” Laws will clog the courts
“3 Strikes” Laws will take all sentencing discretion away from judges
The cost of imprisoning 3-time offenders for life is prohibitively high
“3 Strikes” Laws will have a disproportionate impact on minority offenders
Let the punishment fit the crime, a Constitutional principle

Alexander also notes “Three Strikes” Laws are a violation against the human rights of hundreds of thousands of 3 Strikers and their families. “Across America, thousands of 3 Strikers are serving life sentences after committing minor offences. The punishment should fit the crime to allow these inmates to resume their live with their families.”

Stewart Alexander can relate to the hardship that is imposed on prisoner’s families. Alexander has a nephew that has been in the California Department of Correction for 20 years. At the age of five months old, his nephew was involved in a serious automobile accident that resulted in severe head injuries. Due to the accident, Alexander’s nephew was treated for a psychological disorder throughout his teens.

At the age of 19, Alexander’s nephew was arrested for joy-riding in a stolen vehicle. For the past 21 years, his nephew has been in and out of state prison because he wanders off and fails to report to his parole officer or he fails to report on time for a urine test. His incarceration has cost California taxpayers nearly $1 million. Knowing that his nephew is spending his life in state prison due to a mental disorder is costing Alexander and his family much more.

If elected President in 2012, Alexander says he will seek federal legislation to abolish “Three Strikes” Laws and the death penalty nationwide.
