It's less than one thousand days until the 2012 London Olympics which are due to commence on 27 July 2012. In recognition of this, Visit London conducted a study which found that over £11billion is set to be invested into Olympics related projects that will directly benefit travellers coming to London in the long term.
Investment is due to be pumped into a variety of sectors:
· Public transport will be upgraded in a number of ways including new links, ungraded tube lines and extra cycle paths and walkways to boost greener travel.
· Major new architectural constructions are being built such as The Shard in London Bridge and the centrally located Heron Tower with stunning cityscape views.
· Extra shopping areas will arise, including Westfield Stratford.
· Tate Modern is building a new wing called 'Tate Modern 2'.
Many of these projects are close to completion so visitors to London need not wait, they can start benefiting from this massive investment right now.
It is fantastically positive news that so much is due to be invested into London. The billions of pounds will lead to higher standards of travel, better entertainment for down-time and generally a higher quality London. Coupled with the 2012 Olympics Games in London, all this extra spending will help ensure that London continues to be the most popular city in the world.
