NO TO ANOTHER WAR IN THE KOREAN PENINSULA, NO TO BRINKMASNHIP.
Los Angeles- As Asian-Americans and speaking in behalf of the progressive Filipino-American community, the Alliance-Philippines (AJLPP) expresses serious concern over the crisis in the Korean Peninsula.
The People’s Democratic Republic of Korea (DRPK) or the North Korea ( as the US wants to call it) said Tuesday it was severing all relations with South Korea and cutting communications links in protest at claims that it had sunk one of Seoul's warships.
This means the DPRK would expel all South Korean personnel from a jointly-run industrial estate at Kaesong north of the border, and ban South Korean ships and planes from its territorial waters and airspace.
This comes after the US-supported Republic of Korea on Monday announced a package of reprisals, including a halt in most trade. It plans to refer the sinking of one of its ships to the United Nations .
The Alliance (AJLPP) said it is concerned because it will affect the Asian community and the brinkmanship being practiced by the Obama regime will bring the United States to a crisis with its Asian neighbor.
The API community remembers the United States has been involved in several wars in Asia. With the Filipinos in the Philippine –American War of 1899, with Japan in World War II from 1941-45; With DPRK in Korean War 1950’s and in the Vietnam War from 1954-1975.
The AJLPP reiterated “ We in the Alliance and as a part of International ANSWER are advocates of peace and justice, so we are against any aggressive war by US allies or the US itself.”
DRPK Warnings and South Korea’s saber-rattling
The DPRK further said it would not talk to the South again for the remainder of President Lee Myung-Bak's term. The conservative leader began a five-year term in February 2008, adopting a tougher line towards the North than his liberal predecessors.
The DPRK ‘s state Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said South Korea's claims that it had torpedoed a warship were tantamount to a declaration of war.
In a statement on the official news agency, it said it was freezing relations and abrogating a non-aggression agreement.
The DPRK also vowed an "all-out counterattack" against the South's decision to resume an official crossborder propaganda campaign, including loudspeaker broadcasts.
