Panorama City – The Island Pacific Supermarket and the Justice For Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) held a Bataan Day Remembrance and a Book-signing last April 11, 2010 from 11:30 to 1;00 PM at Suite No. 3 Island Pacific SuperMarket in the valley.

Scores of aging Filipino veterans and widows for the valley some of them in walkers, came for the event. One veteran. Lorenzo Sayson from the island of Negros complained that he and some veterans have not received their lump sum claims. The DVA has reported that 14,000 Filipino veterans from the Philippines have received their claims.

Philippines, The DVA Priority

On the other hand, the JFAV has reiterated that the DVA is playing politics. JFAV National Coordinator Arturo Garcia said in his talk during the book signing that “They (DVA) are giving priority in the Philippines because it is election time on May 2010 while delaying the claims of Filipino veterans in the US.”

JFAV data disclosed that less than 4,000 out the more than 11,000 veterans in the US have received their claims. JFAV/AWARE and the Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC) based in Washington DC are going to file a case against the DVA for delayed claims and benefits denied to the widows.

The Island Pacific SuperMarket President Jeff Lim is a major sponsor for the event. Other sponsors are FilAm Arts, Errol Santos, business development consultant for healthcare industries, BANTAY PILIPINAS, AWARE , People’s CORE and KmB
