Rebel Gen. Lim: Arroyo inviting military revolt

Los Angeles- The EPCC NEWS learned through Manila media sources that a detained military rebel general said that the Philippine Palace is “concluding maneuver” to control the high court could invite a military uprising, warned a rebel officer seeking a Senate seat.

“[President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo] is inviting a new military uprising,” said West pointer and Army General Danny Lim said in a statement.

He said military officers and their men were disappointed with the Supreme Court ruling authorizing Ms Arroyo to name Chief Justice Reynato Puno’s successor.

He described Ms Arroyo’s anticipated appointment of the new Chief Justice as “a concluding maneuver [of the Palace] to control the judiciary in its effort to avoid persecution for its high crimes against the people.”

Lim is in detention for allegedly leading a coup plot in 2006 and taking part in the standoff at the Peninsula Manila hotel in 2007.

He said the threat of “a soldier’s revolt” was “always there” as a result of the purported undermining of democratic institutions.

Lim also said he had done his part and that he was leaving it to his fellow soldiers to heed their conscience.

“Can we blame the ordinary soldier when the judiciary is anything but luminous, when the legislature is the plaything of Malacañang and when our poll body is widely perceived as a cheating apparatus?” he said.

Bu the AFP denied yet again that there was a conspiracy between the military and the Supreme Court to prolong Ms Arroyo’s stay in power should the May 10 elections fail.

General Lim of the Scout Rangers have been detained together with 50 other officers for the failed coup attempt in the Philippines in 2006.
