FQS Activist and a KMU official passes away at 56

Los Angeles-- PESANTE NEWS today learned that KMU leader and an FQS activist Douglas Dumanon passed away.

Dumanon also served as KMU’s national treasurer from 2001 to 2004.

"He contributed much to the expansion and relations of KMU to various independent unions, and the labor center’s alliance work," Labog said.

The KMU chair said Dumanon started as a youth activist and as a member of the Kabataang Makabayan (Patriotic Youth) at the Pamatasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (University of Manila) during the 70s.

PLM was one of the bastion of student activism in the FQS of 1970's. PLM is funded by the City of Manila and all the students are government scholars. That is why most of them identify with the poor and the oppressed.

He served as a full-time organizer of the youth organization in different schools and communities. He also became a political detainee, and after his release, he joined the workers’ movement. He became a union official before serving various tasks for the KMU.

"He was brought down by diseases, gravest of which is his cancer of the throat that has spread out to his intestines. He also suffered from pneumonia and diabetes," Labog said.

The KMU said Dumanon would be "forever a pillar of the working class movement and the progressive forces in the country" and "an inspiration to us to pursue the fight for genuine democracy and social change."

His remains lie at Sta. Cecilia Church, Las Piñas City.
