On this Friday, some of the airplanes of FAB (Brazilian Air Force) that send groceries and rescue teams to Haiti faced difficulties of landing at Porto Prince's airport due to the increase of the restriction of landings on the part of the Americans.
The problem happens due to the precarious conditions of the airport, that it was partially damaged with the Tuesday earthquake that devastated Haiti. The Americans - that received of the Haitian government the temporary control on the airport - they are restricting the operations due to the structure lack to unload the material of help and for the lack of fuel.
A bulletin of alert of FAA on Friday it said that just flights with previous authorization are being authorized to land in Porto Príncipe, and that for the others the Haitian air space is closed.
The situation caused a small diplomatic problem between Brazil and USA. Besides hindering the landing of the airplanes of FAB, the Brazilians claim that the American control impeded the access of Minustah (Mission of Paz of UN in Haiti, led by the Brazilians) to the place.
The complaint was the objective of a connection of the Brazilian Minister of External Relationships, Celso Amorim, to the American secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. "There was a small misunderstanding in relation to the subject of the airport, the sequence of the airplanes, the access of Minustah to the airport. Her [Hillary] promised that it will reinforce the instruction that already has USA military command of coordinating with Minustah", she affirmed.
When disembarking on this Friday in Brazil after a visit of 24 hours to Haiti, the Brazilian Defense Minister, Nelson Jobim, also criticized the control of the USA on Porto Prince's airport. Jobim said that the decision was "unilateral" of the North Americans, without other countries were consulted.
Celso Amorim said that the secretary of State of the USA explained that the American forces will accomplish functions essentially humanitarian, without interfering in the public safety of the country, since that is the function of Minustah. The minister said that Hillary recognized the leadership of Brazil in the recovery of Haiti, for that it was shown disposed to dialogue with the troops of the USA in the Caribbean country.
