Friday, January 15, 2010, edition of The Michael Slate Show on KPFK 90.7 FM:

Larry Everest, writer for Revolution newspaper on the continuing upsurge in Iran. In late December, central Tehran, and other cities, looked like a war zone, as fearless crowds battled security forces, who in turn opened fire, killing many. The situation is complex and rapidly changing. Different forces contend for leadership within the Islamic Republic as the regime escalates its threats. It now confronts a radicalized segment of the population, and sections of the people increasingly alienated from Islamic rule and the Islamic Republic itself.

Douglas Fischer, Editor of The Daily Climate, and author of "Disappearing options," based on a study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Scientists found that climate policy has a tipping point, and "Failure to set and meet strict targets for greenhouse gas emissions cuts over the next 40 years could put long-term goals - such as limiting planetary warming to 2ºC by 2100 - permanently out of reach."

Jennifer Pizer, National Marriage Project Director for Lambda Legal on the federal case challenging Proposition 8, and the January 13, Supreme Court decision which barred videotaping or broadcast of the trial. She will talk about whose interests are served by this ruling.
