The police continue to militarize our communities by blocking the roads, stealing the cars of immigrants who are unable to obtain licenses. Our rights, such as the right to freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, the right to know about checkpoints beforehand, and others, continue to be rolled back.
There are many tactics that can be used against the checkpoints. One is organizing a phone tree or text message alert system for your community. Raisethefist.com has a fantastic system for sending out emergency alerts.
Another is to do counter checkpoint actions: Get a big sign that says "Checkpoint Ahead Retén Adelante" and go stand with some friends a block or so ahead of the checkpoint and warn the drivers. This is legally-protected free speech but cops have been known to brutalize and arrest people using this tactic, so bring comrades and documentation equipment (cameras, etc.)

Friday:
Monterey Park- 2345 S. Atlantic Monterery Park CA 91754 (at 1st Street) OR 215 W. Pomona Monterey Park CA 91754 (just west of Pomona and Garfield)

La policía sigue con su militarización de nuestras comunidades, bloqueando las calles y robándoles los carros a la gente inmigrante que no puede sacar una licencia. Nuestros derechos, por ejemplo el derecho de la libertad del cateo y arrebato irrazonable, al igual que el derecho de que nos informen acerca de los retenes por adelantado, nos los retiran cada vez más.
Hay muchas tácticas que se pueden usar en contra de los retenes. Uno es organizar una red telefónica o de mensajes de texto para tu comunidad. El sitio raisethefist.com ofrece un buen servicio para difundir mensajes de texto de urgencia.
Otra es realizar acciones contra los retenes. En un cartelón, pintas "Checkpoint Ahead Retén Adelante" y te paras a una distancia de una cuadra del retén para avisarles a los conductores. Esta actividad es protegida por la libertad de expresión pero aun así a veces la policía no respeta este derecho, y han sabido golpear y arrestar a personas por hacerlo. Por eso conviene andar bien acompañadx y con aparatos para documentar lo que sucede (como cámaras por ejemplo).
