The Alliance-Philippines (AJLPP) condemns the San Francisco Unified School District Board's decision to reinstate JROTC after voting to scrap the JROTC three years ago. On May 12, 2009, the San Francisco Unified School District School Board voted to reinstate The Pentagon’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). Touted by top military brass as their best recruitment tool, over 40% of JROTC cadets go on to enlist into the military after graduation. The AJLPP protests JROTC’s reinstatement that was carried out despite popular opposition from San Francisco’s progressive community, and its disproportionately high cost to the school district.

SCRAP THE JROTC, STOP RECRUITING OUR YOUTH TO GO TO IMPERIALIST WARS OF AGGRESSION

San Francisco-- The Alliance-Philippines (AJLPP) condemns the San Francisco Unified School District Board's decision to reinstate JROTC after voting to scrap the JROTC three years ago.

The SFUSD spends more per cadet than any other academic course even though the program fails to meet any standards for Physical Education credit and college preparatory courses. JROTC’s reinstatement flies in the face of academic instructors who have received pink slips in the wake of the growing recession and budget crisis that affect schools all over the country.

This preferential treatment of a military recruitment program should come as no surprise. With the escalation of US-imperialist military aggression in Afghanistan and multi-billion dollar corporate bail-outs here at home, it has been proven time and again that the ruling-class of this country will prioritize funding corporate greed and militarism over the needs of the people.
