CYBERSPACE, April 30, 2008 - Independent journalists and May Day organizers are wondering aloud if Google blocked access to a ILWU web page for a planned closure of West coast ports on Tuesday.

For about four hours on Tuesday people attempting to access the web page received a message stating that the site had been disable for violations of Google’s program polices. The page at the time of this article is now back up and accessible at http://maydayilwu.googlepages.com/

A review of the content of the web page and Google’s polices has found no apparent violations. Although there is a possibility that the block was in error, one of the organizers of the one day strike, Clarence Thomas, on a KPFK show radio Tuesday morning said that he thought it was suspicious.

In Los Angeles there was a call made by local activists for people to email Google for an explanation. The page was unblocked later in the day. No comment from Google has been received.
