The next phase in this coup d'etat of America is perhaps Bush's present promotion of a nuclear war on Iran and his threats of an escalation into a 3rd.world war!
The Bush Govt's establishment of Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba for Al Queda (or other suspected terrorists) doesn't make a lot of sense - especially national security wise! Added to this enigma of even building Guantanamo Bay is the fact that the prisoner's that the US Military has held there are really not of any significant threat to America as either terrotists or criminal masterminds.
There was no major U.S. publicity on the danger or "high value" of any of these mostly benign prisoners.Thats why the Bush Govt. never made any big speeches or public addresses on the capture of any major terrorists because in fact they're wasn't any.
Al Queda was a myth dreamed up by the Bush Neo Cons especially to aid their power hungry objectives.These benign prisoners in Guantanamo are mostly innocent citizens who were illegally arrested and taken there for a specific purpose not related to terrorism.Theses prisoners in reality are being used as mannekins or stand_ins for some kind of twisted plot by the Bush Neo Cons.
What I think the reason is for creating Guantanamo Bay and also the so-called CIA "secret prisons" is actually a ploy by the Bush Regime to establish or to see if they can establis a "precedent" in American government and politics,whereby a President can declare that anyone,even American citizens or more probably that the opposition parties,are now enemies of the state.Then any and all opposition groups or individuals to the Bush Regime can be summarily arrested without any real cause and be shipped out of the county to military prison where they have no legal rights and can be held indefinitely.
Bush's experiment in a fascist take over of Ameria is working quite well because there has been little opposition nor enough open hostility in the general public to put a stop to his plans!
The Guantanamo Bay prison,like other radical measures such as the Patriot Act is all part of an experiment by the Bush & Cheney Neo Cons to see if they can hold onto power indefinitely by pushing through the courts and the US Congress,a fascist agenda that will give them absolute and unstoppable dictatorial powers!
