medical marijuana dispensaries are outlawed

The Southern California area of Palm Springs and surrounding cities in Riverside County have recently outlawed the business of medical marijuana dispensaries. Several that have calmly operated for years have been shut down. City councils in Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert have ignored California's Prop. 215, which stipulates that a safe method exist for qualified patients to obtain their medicine. Local politicians claim constant DEA harrassment, which is a dubious explanation. The huge gay population in this area has an increasing number of HIV positive people who depend on medical pot for pain relief and appetite enhancement. Not to mention the 1000's of elderly cancer patients who now routinely use the herb for chemotherapy relief. Riverside and San Diego Counties both just recently lost a lawsuit that tried to overturn the provisions of Prop 215, but lost in court. This latest attempt at circumventing the law is nothing but a vindictive slap in the face to the critically ill and the will of the voters.
