TROUBLE IN "YUKON TERRITORY: TRANSGENDERS MAY BE HARRASSED AT THE RESTAURANT PARKING

West Hollywood Sheriff's have started asking for ID from customers at West Hollywood coffee shop frequented by transgenders.

TRANSGENDERS MAY BE HARRASSED AT THE YUKON PARKING LOT FOR JUST BEING A TRANNY!

Note: Even though I am a member of the West Hollywood Transgender Task Force, I'm unsure what the term 'COPPS Team' used in the memo quoted below means, but it is probably an acronym for the Sheriff's team set up regarding these [ananomous, of course] "complaints".

One of our sisters observed the "team" which were dressed in blue, not the traditional Sheriff's kakhi, last weekend confronting customers at the parking lot of the Yukon Mining Company, a late-nite hang for transgenders and their friends, and asking for their drivers license.

Last year our Task Force heard complaints of Sheriffs video-taping transgender customers entering and leaving the Yukon.

Unless the officers observed these persons involved in a criminal act, such requests and video-tapings are arguably a violation of these citizens constitutional rights. I encourage anyone observing questionable police conduct to attend our West Hollywood transgender Task Force meeting on Wed. Sept. 13 at the West Hollywood City Hall, Santa Monica Bl. at Sweetzer, a few blocks west of Club 7969, at 7 p.m.

Per Rich Ryan of "City of West Hollywood Community Relations" program and laison to our Transgender Task Force :

"Starting this week the West Hollywood Sheriff's will have an increased presence in the late evenings and early AM at the Yukon Mining Company parking lot, the adjacent streets of Santa Monica Blvd, Poinsettia, Fuller and the surrounding West Hollywood neighborhoods. This increased presence is in response to a very significant increase in the number of complaints of traffic, noise and trespassing in the surrounding residential neighborhoods and streets. "The Sheriff's Deputies will be focusing primarily on traffic issues (cars cruising along Santa Monica Blvd and through the neighborhoods) in response to a significant increase in complaints from residents in the impacted neighborhoods. However, if solicitation is observed, the Sheriff will respond accordingly. "Capt. Goldman has asked the COPPS team to be very cognizant that many of the women hanging out during the early morning hours in the Yukon Mining parking lot are doing so purely for social reasons, which is not a problem. But he asked that folks help out in solving the neighborhood impact issues by not encouraging cars to drive into the surrounding neighborhoods. "Capt. Goldman will be at the September meeting of the West Hollywood Transgender Task Force which is being held on Sept. 13th at 7 PM here at West Hollywood City Hall. "On behalf of Capt. Goldman, the West Hollywood COPPS Team, and the WH Public Safety Commission, thank you for helping to these important neighborhood quality of live issues.

"If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me here at City Hall. "Richard Ryan Community Relations Program Specialist City of West Hollywood 323.848.6470 rryan@weho.org"
