Take Back the Farm

Here are the main points in the continuing fight to save the South Central Farm:

- There is a court hearing on July 12th contesting the legality of the sale of the land to Horowitz by the city. There are also said to be private investigations into the relationship between Jan Perry, councilperson for the 9th district and developer Ralph Horowitz.

- Farmers plan to continue addressing the city council during public comments at city hall. This Friday, 9:30 am they will be at city hall. Supporters are welcome to join them.

- The farmers have obtained a street closure permit to hold their Sunday farmers market outside the on ML King street. People are invited to visit this Sunday.

- The encampment at the farm, which was forcibly removed last week, has been re-established on the sidewalks outside the farm on 41st Street. The street is reportedly lined with tents.

- Farmers are maintaining a 24 hour watch around the farm should the bulldozers return. (Bulldozing has been halted by the city’s department of building and safety because it was done without the required permit.) Horowitz is said to be applying for a permit. The Farmers have renewed their vow to resist the destruction of their farm by any non-violent means available to them.

- Despite the attack on the farm last week the farmers are still determined to save the farm. Much of the farm is still intact and that which was damaged can be replanted.
The fight to save the farm is not over and the new slogan is TAKE BACK THE FARM.
