The community colleges, with a lot less inherent "community" than high schools or universities, are just starting to move against Sensenbrenner.
Oxnard College's Latino Business Club is leading the movement there. OC is a tiny school, fewer than 6200 full time and part time students, in the midst of the area's agribusiness. More than 60% of the students identify as being of Mexican or Central American descent.
This weekend, for Cesar Chavez Day, southern California will here from another limb of that sleeping giant: the UFW will weigh in on Sensenbrenner at its Cesar Chavez Day celebration.
On about 12 hours' notice, 30 OC students gathered at 11:00 a.m. in a cold, pouring rain between the Liberal Arts Building and the Clock Tower.
