Human Traffic Denounced

Berlin, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) Dealing in people is lucrative, such traffic of persons generates some 32 billion dollars a year, more than the profit from illegal weapons sales, studies from both the European Security and Cooperation Organization and the ILO reveal.

The findings, cited by German TV Deutsche Welle, reported organized crime groups garnering between 10 billion and 15 billion dollars annually (ESCO), whereas the International Labor Organization estimated profits much closer to 32 billion dollars.

ESCO began a conference in Vienna Monday to debate the exploitation of people in the world, considered a version of 21st century slavery that affects chiefly women and children, including 800,000 people subjected to forced labor.

The European organization also calculates that between 200,000 and half a million people are moved across and into the European Union and forced to work in captivity.
