Announcement: new professional choral music organization for emerging composers and performers. Inaugural Concert: FREE Sunday July 10 at 5pm at All Saints Church, Pasadena, CA.

The Discovery Camerata Singers, a new choral ensemble dedicated to creating opportunities for emerging singers, composers and conductors will perform their inaugural concert on Sunday, July 10, 2005, at 5pm, at All Saints Church in Pasadena, California. The ensemble, comprised of 20 extremely talented singers from different universities throughout Southern California and led by founder/artistic director Zanaida Robles, wants everyone to "discover" that superb choral music can be found in your own backyard! Although the concert is free and open to the public, a donation of $10 is suggested at the door.

"The Discovery Camerata Singers was born from the need to remedy three basic deficits in our local music community, outside the college setting," states Robles. "These are a lack of accessible music organizations which provide performance opportunities for those trying to make the transition from student to professional musician; a lack of small, classically-oriented vocal ensembles to provide an affordable, stimulating source of entertainment and cultural enrichment; and a lack of music organizations which promote and facilitate the performance of choral compositions by emerging local composers.”

Robles is a 26-year-old, African American, female classical vocalist, music conductor, composer, and teacher, who recently earned a Master of Music degree in conducting from California State University, Northridge; she received her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from California State University, Long Beach. “In a field such as professional conducting where African American females are severely underrepresented, I feel a heightened responsibility to make a visible and valuable contribution to my community in my area of expertise," said Robles.

All Saints Church is located at 132 N. Euclid Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101. Street parking is available. For more information, contact Zanaida Robles at znrobles@yahoo.com.
