Urgent casting call for "Salsa Nights" anti-three strikes law play!

Casting call!! See below!

Several people are needed to help fill acting roles
for a not-for-profit anti-three strikes law play
entitled "Salsa Nights" that will be performed at the
Unitarian Church of Orange County (located at 511 S.
Harbor Blvd. in Anaheim) starting on the evening of
Friday, October 15th.

Although most of the roles have already been assigned.
and dress rehearsals are in progress, the following
parts still need to be filled:

"BETO" -- Mexican-American male, 22-29 years of age.
Character is in prison. Locked up due to
"three strikes" law. Father of young boy.

"MICHAEL SHEAR" -- European-American male,
25-30 years of age.
Character is a "leading man" type. Jewish
ancestory Boyfriend of divorced mother
of prisoner who is a "third
striker". Is also a Naval Reservist who is
gung-ho about going to Afghanistan.

Several young couples -- Teens to early 20s.
To perfom a Salsa Dance routine at the
beginning of the play. Brief routine. 2-3 minutes
long.

Two Mexican-American males to play prison Guards.
Early 20s. Beefy. "Gangsta" look.

Help is also needed from persons knowledgeable about
technical aspects of lighting and sound.

Previous acting experience is desirable, but not
required.

SUMMARY OF PLAY:

"Salsa Nights"

A young woman with a four year old is divorced by her
husband who is serving 25 to life in California for
stealing a greeting card for their first anniversary.
he play explores politics, prison reform, the post
9/11 wars, and interethnic hostility.

Spiced with tragedy and humor it has a happy ending.
It incorporates seduction, murder, abortion, suicide.
blackmail, prostitution, immigrant bashing,
anti-Semitism, campaign contributions, salsa and other
diversions of the Southern California lifesyle.

Four presentations each week-end. October 15-31.
Fridays 7pm. Saturdays 2:30 and 7pm, Sundays, 2:30
pm. Note on the first Friday and Saturday, (October
15 and 16), there will be a dinner served at 6 pm.
Suggested donation $15, for the play only, $25 for
dinner and play, (no one turned away for lack of
funds, subject to the capacity limitations.)
