Thank you for these mysteries, even though we take them for granted and upset their balance, thinking we can go on like this forever.

Dear Mother Earth,

I thought I’d take a moment here amidst all the gluttony taking place on Turtle Island to thank you for all the gifts you’ve given us. To that end:

Thank you for the air you’ve given us, even though we take it for granted and spew tons of pollutants into it every day thinking we can go on like this forever.

Thank you for the water you have given us, even though we take it for granted and foul the water everyday with endless discharges and contaminants thinking we can go on like this forever.

Thank you for the soil you have given us, even though we take it for granted and trash the land with countless abuses, reaping deserts and dead zones, thinking we can go on like this forever.

Thank you for the neighbors you’ve placed around us: the small creatures who bring balance to the soil; the small animals and the large who bring balance to the woodlands, the prairies, the mountains and the shore; the creatures in the waters who bring balance to the streams, the rivers, the lakes and the sea; and the winged ones who bring balance to all your gifts. Thank you for their company, even though we take them for granted and destroy them and their homes, thinking we can go on like this forever.

Thank you for the unseen forces you have placed around us: the magnetic fields, the gravity, the winds, the things we do not yet know. Thank you for these mysteries, even though we take them for granted and upset their balance, thinking we can go on like this forever.

And we thank the Creator for the Sun and Moon and the Heavens that surround us, even though we take them for granted and some of us dream of one day conquering them as we have the gifts our mother has given us, thinking we can go on like this forever……..which, of course, we cannot.

Love,

Your Children
