a poem

the American heritage

diction is a racial slur

a verb tense that is present

past and future

a cold crisp objective

fact

a predicate to a person

ality test and a declaration of war

on whomever cannot pass,

it is an embargo on slang

and the savage syntax

of youth,

it is black type-set

text on a white page

defining in no uncertain terms

who we are,

how to pronounce professional

and opinion, what is

synonymous with privilege,

and the five antonyms of civilized:

assaulted, brutalized, abused,

lowly and depraved
