Huntington Beach police are investigating graffiti sprayed at the home of an immigration-reform activist as a possible hate crime.
Barbara Coe, an advocate of anti-illegal-immigrant measures, said she returned home about 3 p.m. Sunday to find the words "racist" and "anarchy" sprayed on her garage. Profanity was sprayed on the sidewalk in front of her Castle Lane home, police said.
"Frankly, I think this was retaliation for the rally at Anaheim City Hall," said Coe, who is president of the California Coalition for Immigration Reform.
Her group organized a Dec. 8 rally opposing the Anaheim Police Department's decision to accept Mexican consulate cards as identification. A brief brawl erupted during the rally among 20 to 30 people who support and oppose the ID policy.
