Local D.C. news: Secuity concerns lead to possible venue/date change for upcoming IMF/World Bank meetings.

Local Washington, D.C., activists reported today that WRC-TV Channel 4 (NBC) ran a story on the possibility that the D.C. IMF/World Bank meetings scheduled for late September/early October may be changing dates and even venue in response to "security concerns about demonstrations at those meetings."

The report quoted an on-camera interview with assistant police chief Gainer, who said authorities were considering "compressing the meetings or changing the venue."

Currently, the meetings are scheduled to run for six days, from September 28 through October 4; this may be scaled back to three days.

According to unnamed "federal officials," however, it is "extremely unlikely" that the meetings will not take place in D.C. as planned.

It was also reported that regardless of any changes that might take place, protestors will still proceed with planned convergance and demonstration actions.
