The Gap's "Vendor Code of Conduct" calls for workers in its factories to be paid the legal minimum wage or the "local industry standard, whichever is higher." Keeping in mind that the United States, the richest country in the world, has a legal minimum wage below the poverty line, the "local industry standard" in, say, Indonesia is not going to be much of a windfall. The Gap Code of Vendor Conduct can be viewed at http://www.gapinc.com/about/global_manuf/code_overview.htm>
