He's gone from making up to $200,000 per year to working at a Starbucks in Palm Springs, but as an openly Gay man he's happier than he's ever been. NBC Rejects Chics: What's Up With That? (tags)
The Dixie Chicks, that is. This isn’t the first time that big media companies have barred them from the airwaves, but it is the first time that NBC and the new CW network have. It appears that once again the Dixie Chicks have exhibited public disapproval of the Bush administration and once again the media have answered by censoring them. This bodes ill for the future of free speech, at least what’s left of it in America. © 2006, Sasha A. Rae, All Rights Reserved

Nader called his former press secretary, “a great candidate.” An activist’s activist, Nader said a vast majority of Americans need a dose of “moral courage.” They have allowed “a few,” to rule over the many. “Democracy,” Nader said, “isn’t a slogan. People need to get motivated, show up and get organized.”

Money + Media = Mind Manipulation (tags)
During the election of 2000, Katherine Harris, the Florida secretary of state under Jeb Bush, ordered the removal of 90,000 names from the voter roles because they were convicted felons; but not really. These people were Black. The eliminated voters’ race appears on the disqualifying list that was obtained and reported by Greg Palast in The Guardian. The story ran in Europe, South America and Canada. Palast maintains that he published the story within weeks of the election, but it did not appear until seven months after the election in the Washington Post.

Where are the Right-Wing Artists? (tags)
Conservatives and libertarians expect their artists to be supported by the market, but that attitude ill serves the creation of a conservative or libertarian culture... the common perception in Hollywood is that Conservatives are "bigots"
DefenseWatch "The Voice of the Grunt": Loyalty to the Country Always (tags)
Like the Dixie Chicks, the Irish people aren’t afraid to sound off. Forever mindful of their hard fight for liberty, they don’t take freedom of speech for granted. And their stand-up-and-be-counted electronic media regularly – and righteously – go for their politicians’ jugular veins with a vengeance seldom seen in the USA these days. I suspect the reason for the difference is Corporate America’s control over our airways; the big guys are now shamelessly riding the same corrupting pork train as most Washington-based power players.

Am I still An Unpatriotic Traitor? (tags)
Am I still an Unpatriotic Traitor? That's what you called me when I said let the inspections play out, let them continue. But no, you said "enough was enough". You told me Saddam was building this apocalyptic arsenal. He had VX and Sarin and Anthrax and Mustard Gas and Salmonella and The Cooties. You told me was capable of launching a biological attack at the drop of a hat. You told me he presented a clear and imminent threat to my security. You told me to gift-wrap my house in Saran-wrap and Duct Tape.

A PNAC Primer: How We Got Into This Mess (tags)
In the early-1990s, there was a group of ideologues and power-politicians on the fringe of the Republican Party's far-right. The members of this group in 1997 would found The Project for the New American Century (PNAC); their aim was to prepare for the day when the Republicans regained control of the White House -- and, it was hoped, the other two branches of government as well -- so that their vision of how the U.S. should move in the world would be in place and ready to go, straight off-the-shelf into official policy.

A conversation about free speech. An anchor asking reasonable questions. A guest responding in equally reasonable tones. No attempt to close out the discussion - to say "Well thank you Tim". This was not a filibuster. Robbins was not hogging the spotlight. Someone in the control room simply decided that it was time to pull the plug.
