As the Los Angeles teachers girds for a strike on Friday, may 15, LAUSD officials said they will seek an immediate court injunction to stop Friday’s scheduled one-day teachers strike. The Coalition to Defend Immigrant Rights (CDIR) and the Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC) supports the teachers strike on Friday and will march today, May 12 at the LAUSD building at 1:00 PM. They are also protesting the lay-off of more than 4,500 teachers by June 2009. The LA Times today, May 12 said: "expected Tuesday morning filing in L.A. Banging pots, waving signs, shouting slogans to passersby and delaying the start of the school day as students in the nation's second-largest school district waited in gymnasiums and auditoriums and on athletic fields. Motorist hoked their horns in supports of the rallyist. By 9 a.m. most protests had wound down.
