Much to the jubilation of the throngs of demonstrators in Egypt Hosni Mubarak has announced his resignation, handing his powers to the army. The strongman who just a few hours before wanted to be the defender of the constitution and the ultimate bulwark against the “chaos”, has thus ratified a kind of cold coup d'Etat (according to the constitution the president of parliament should take over power).
