Now Bernard Duncan’s name has reappeared in some other suspicious circumstances that most of those who are KPFK sponsors/ subscribers/ members/ payers Do Not Understand, and Have Not Been Informed…at all ! Why is there no local transparency or an LA Town Hall meeting to explain, to hear and ask questions - and even if answers are not accurate or easy, for there to be available Discussion, Exposure, Information -vs silence and secrecy – yes, here where KPFK still exists and plays on air ...as if nothing else were going on behind some closed hallowed doors - secretly....unknown to us. We have no say, of course, no power, no input, no nutin but pay and wonder and worry. who are the players here and what are they doing ? in secret alliances ?

"The Activism Entry Point: Critiquing The Cancer in Occupy Debate" — by Joseph Anderson (tags)

Longtime Berkeley activist Joseph Anderson weighs in on the ongoing debate around Occupy Oakland on the issue of diversity of tactics and the use of BlackBloc style tactics. He weighs in on the recent debate between Chris Hedges and Occupy Oakland organizer Kristof Lopaur. The Occupy movement, Anderson says, cannot have both a diversity of people and a ”diversity of tactics” at this time – and the movement can’t shortcut the process of attaining, and retaining, the first by jumping to the second. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Longshore Workers, Truckers: Shut the Ports, Coast to Coast! (tags)

Following the nationally-coordinated police evictions last month of Occupy Wall Street and encampments across the country, on December 12 the Occupiers struck back. Ports up and down the West Coast were blockaded, from Seattle to San Diego. Despite a barrage of hostile propaganda in the media, opposition from union bureaucrats and heavy police repression in some places, overall the blockade was successful -- this time. The blockade was called in solidarity with longshore workers fighting a union-busting assault in Longview, Washington and port truckers seeking union recognition in the ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach. This support should have been greeted. But now the class war on the West Coast docks is coming to a head, and it can't be waged from the outside. Bay Area labor has called for a caravan to Longview. The goal should be a real occupation of the terminal by the workers to prevent the loading of the scab cargo. Longshore militants have called on the longshore unions to shut down every port on the West Coast, and the East and Gulf Coasts, to smash EGT's union-busting. Can it be done? Yes, but only though sharp struggle against the pro-capitalist labor bureaucracy.

Oppose The Privatization of Law Enforcement Services in Oakland (tags)

I am deeply concerned that private patrol operators in California may be effectively able to evade the obligations of public sector law enforcement outfits in the service of a government by the people for the people under the Constitution of the State of California and the Constitution of the United States of America. If a private law enforcement company commits a material breach of our state or federal constitutions, their insurance carrier will invariably pay a cash settlement to the victims and the private law enforcement company will be disbanded.

Instead of workers going to work and students going to school, the people will converge on downtown Oakland to shut down the city.

General Strike: Where Ows Needs To Go (tags)

....we are unlikely to see major policy or infrastructure changes until our new movement hits the 1% where it really hurts -- in their pocketbook..... This is where #OccupyWallStreet differs significantly from the major uprisings in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, where mass demonstrations were accompanied by general strikes that shut down economic activity. In Egypt, it was the unions' threat to shut down the Suez Canal that ultimately forced Mubarak to step down.

That is why you should vote Peace & Freedom or Green, the two parties that support socialized medicine and oppose insurance companies.

Hundreds Demand Justice for Oscar Grant Outside L.A. Courthouse (tags)

On June 14th, hundreds of people demonstrated outside the Los Angeles Superior Court at 210 W. Temple to demand justice for Oscar Grant. Angelenos made it very clear that the significance of the trial of Johannes Mehserle is bigger than just Oscar Grant's case, and that police brutality is part of systematic oppression. Connections were drawn between police killings in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, as well as in New York.

And not forgetting the six month long uprising, which began on June 14, 2006, loud cries of "Oaxaca Vive Vive, La Lucha Sigue Sigue" rang through the downtown streets.

Murdering Cop to Face Murder Charges… The Struggle Continues (tags)

Six months after the killing of Oscar Grant, on June 4, Judge C. Don Clay ruled, after a preliminary hearing, that former Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) cop Johannes Mehserle will go to trial for murder. This ruling sets the stage, and new stakes, for the battle for justice for Oscar Grant. And the twists and turns of this case as it heads into trial need to be closely watched. People need to continue to speak out, resist and bring the truth about this murder, part of a nationwide epidemic of police murder, to the world.

Longshore Workers Honor Picket Line, Shut Down War Cargo Shipper in Oakland (tags)

This can be an important first step toward the mobilization of workers power to shut down the war machine, but that requires a sharp struggle against the bourgeois politics of the antiwar groups and union officialdom. The OEA calls for money for schools not for war, as if it were a matter of budget priorities, and the PAC poster made a social-patriotic pitch to “Bring the Troops Home Now, and give them the care they need.” Such “peace is patriotic” rhetoric is a staple of the UPFJ, but all the antiwar coalitions make similar appeals to garner support from Democratic Party liberals. Revolutionaries and class-conscious workers, in contrast, emphasize that this imperialist war must be opposed by class war.
