[Photo: Syrian L-39 Albatros. One was shot down by U.S. armed, trained, & financed Jabhat al-Nusra (al-Qaeda) forces on December 26, 2017 using a man-portable air-defense system. The U.S. proxy jihadists captured the pilot, slit his throat, and shot him twice in the head. Like ISIS, who are almost identical ideologically and were a split from their forces, Jabhat al-Nusra posted their barbarity online to brag of it.]

U.S. policy is not about one individual, and no matter how much faith people place in President-elect Barack Obama, the policies he enacts will be fruit of a tree with many roots. Among them: his personal politics and views, the disastrous realities his administration will inherit, and, of course, unpredictable future crises. But the best immediate indicator of what an Obama administration might look like can be found in the people he surrounds himself with and who he appoints to his Cabinet. And, frankly, when it comes to foreign policy, it is not looking good.

Simmering discontent among Iran's ethnic Kurdish minority - aided by the government's conflict with a Turkish PKK offshoot - could spell major trouble for the Iranian government. The US government is fully aware of these tensions, and, according to published reports, is preparing several contingency plans to capitalize on mass discontent in these areas.

Six Lies You Shouldn't Believe About Iran (tags)
"I'm an American who used to live in New York City. All my life, when I heard about warships, it was US warships going places far away. I never even imagined hostile warships sailing toward New York. Now I'm in Tehran, and aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis is heading our way. And as it sails, people are discussing Israel and/or the US bombing Iran as if my family and 69 million other people weren't even here. I'm getting scared."

The practical result is that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is ever more popular all over the Arab street. Kind of like the new, 21st-century Saladin. The resistance did not kidnap her because this would have left a bad impression of the resistance in the world," said another commander. And much more..... -----
An anti-state communist perspective on the war (tags)
This is 2003 article about the Iraq War 2, just before it started. It's from Anarchy: a journal of desire armed. It's unusually prescient in its predictions of how the entire war will go. I post this because the journal has been criticized by some anarchistists as "primitivist", and Anarchism has been derided by the Left as everything from chaos to disruptive and unthinking. Liberals stereotype anarchists as young fashion victims, implying they are shallow. These are simplistic stereotypes at best, and fear mongering at the worst. Articles like this one below, I hope, give people pause to consider the relevance and usefulness of anti-state, anti-capitalist critique. Remember, this article was written before we invaded Iraq. So here goes. -- Just Another Anarchist

After just listening to the Bush speech on Monday evening, and his appeal to Iraqi Republican Guard units to give up without a fight, I am led to ask the question, 'Who is going to crush the Kurds of Iraq' after Saddam is gone from the scene, and the answer would appear to be the Republican Guard, if they should be turned by the Americans.

RENDON/Iraqi National Congress (tags)
"Were it not for Rendon," a State Department official remarked, "the Chalabi group wouldn't even be on the map." With funding first from the CIA throughout the 1990s and more recently the Pentagon, Rendon managed the INC's every move, an INC spokesperson acknowledges, even choosing its name, coordinating its annual strategy conferences, and orchestrating its meetings with diplomatic heavy hitters, such as James Baker and Brent Scowcroft.
