We just heard on KPFA's Morning Mix, 8 a.m. Sept 17, 2012, 94.1 FM, that Mayor Emanuel obtained an injunction against the striking teachers. The teachers had postponed their decision 1 day for the Jewish New Year, but Zionist Emanuel, with dual US/Israeli citizenship and formerly a member of the Israeli Defense Force, and campaigner for Democratic Pres Obama, did not wait for the Jewish New Year and the democratic decision making process of labor. EPCC CONDEMNS LA COURT /LAUSD SCHOOL BOARD FOR INTIMIDATION AND UNION-BUSTING (tags)
The Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC) condemns the recent Los Angeles Court order against the teachers strike today, May 13. The LA School Board and Superintendent Ramon Cortines succeeded to impose an injunction if the teachers continue with their planned strike. The UTLA has ordered the strike to be set aside. On April 30th, over 73% of the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) union members voted for a one-day strike on May 15th to protest the budget cuts that would lay-off over 5,000 teachers and leave students in overcrowded classrooms. LA Superior Court Judge James Chalfant ordered the court injunction that favored the School Board that has been preparing to stop the teacher strike and any simultaneous student protest on May 15th.
JUDGE ALARCON THROWS OUT RALPH HOROWITZ’S LAWSUIT (tags)
The court ruled that the plaintiffs had not alleged facts or provided the court with evidence showing that the Farmers had engaged in a willful act in their use of the preliminary injunction that was not proper in the regular conduct of the legal proceedings. The court held that under case law in California, even if a party files an action that it knows is substantively meritless and does so for an improper purpose, these facts alone do not constitute a claim for abuse of process. The Horowitz plaintiffs had to show that the Farmers used the preliminary injunction in an improper way after they obtained it. The plaintiffs failed to allege or show in their opposition brief any such misuse of the injunction, and because they did not, the court granted the Farmers’ motion and dismissed the plaintiffs’ lawsuit.

Robocops patrol deserted, quiet streets. Young people walking to school are tense--they never know if they might be arrested for whistling, shouting, or talking to each other. Houses and apartments may be raided at any time, and unauthorized people arrested for being there. No one is hanging out. This is not U.S.-occupied Iraq. This is LAPD-occupied Watts. This is the reality Chief Bratton, Mayor Hahn, and the city authorities are bringing down on Nickerson Gardens.

SMASH THE SLAVE LABOR INJUNCTION! (tags)
Bush is going to court seeking an injunction ordering the West Coast longshoremen back to work, invoking the slave labor Taft-Hartley Act. This law was written by ultra-right Republican Robert Taft, passed as part of the post-WW2 reaction, and is THE main union-busting tool of the capitalist state. The last time a President tried to invoke was Jimmy Carter in 1978, and he failed. Let's make sure Bush fails this time, too. For a general political strike to smash the slave labor injunction and stop the war with Iraq!
